The Challenge

In April of 1997, Milwaukee Public Schools - one of the largest school systems in the U.S. at over 160 schools - launched a plan to electronically link every computer in their system. Through this plan, Internet access would reach every workstation in every classroom.

To many, it seemed a task too large to even merit consideration.

The Obstacles

Traditionally, a copper cable from a central electronics closet was used to provide an initial Internet access port within a classroom. For each additional computer, though, an additional copper cable was required. This problem was compounded by the fact that copper cable itself has been in a constant state of obsolecence, as new standards continue to evolve.

The Solution

The Classroom Closet™ designed by Munger provided MPS with a seamless network solution. Installed in each classroom, the Closet features active electronics that link multiple computer workstations to the school's central equipment via a dedicated fiber optic cable.

The Closet makes it not only possible, but affordable to utilize the superior performance of fiber optic cable in a district wide application.
